The goal of the pilot is to test the Dynamic Adaptive Policy Pathways (DAPP) approach and provide guidance to the municipalities in making better decisions regarding future flood protection measures and spatial planning for urban development. +
Het lectoraat Assetmanagement doet onderzoek naar effectief en efficiënt langetermijnbeheer van bedrijfsmiddelen (assets) die bepalend zijn voor de leefbaarheid en duurzaamheid van de Zuidwestelijke Delta. De groep brengt hiervoor onderzoekers, studenten, professionals uit de praktijk en beleidsmakers samen.
Assetmanagement gaat over het beheer van bedrijfsmiddelen, meestal in de openbare ruimte of als onderdeel van de infrastructuur. Denk bijvoorbeeld aan bruggen, wegen, sluizen, verkeerscentrales, rioleringen en groenvoorzieningen.
De onderzoekers ontwikkelen strategieën op basis van prestaties, kosten en risico’s. Ze richten zich met strategisch assetmanagement op de nieuwste markten en technische ontwikkelingen, het beheer van assets met nieuwe technieken en innovatieve methoden en smart and data driven assetmanagement. Het laatste wordt in de toekomst belangrijker. Ook worden thema’s als circulariteit, het verlengen van de levensduur en klimaatadaptatie steeds belangrijker binnen het onderzoeksgebied.
Met hun onderzoek zorgen de onderzoekers dat de regio veilig, duurzaam, aantrekkelijk en bereikbaar blijft. Een andere belangrijke taak is het vergroten van kennis over assetmanagement. Dit doen de onderzoekers enerzijds door onderwijs aan studenten, anderzijds door cursussen en workshops te verzorgen.
Het lectoraat werkt samen met partners in de regio, die de assets beheren. Het gaat om grote spelers als Rijkswaterstaat, de provincie, Waterschap Scheldestromen, North Sea Port, de Zeeuwse gemeenten en KIC/MPI. Met deze partners deelt het lectoraat kennis, zodat assetmanagers in de Zuidwestelijke Delta zich kunnen blijven ontwikkelen. +

De behoefte aan biobased schuimmaterialen in plaats van traditionele, op aardolie gebaseerde kunststoffen en schuimen is groot. Studenten van HZ University of Applied Sciences, Avans Hogeschool en de Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAMK) in Finland hebben in het kader van het BeLight-project onderzoek gedaan naar de toepasbaarheid van composteerbare en herbruikbare bioplastics. Zij lieten zich in de coronacrisis niet tegenhouden en gingen samen online op zoek naar antwoorden op moeilijke vraagstukken. +

The HZ Green Office invites you to a beach cleanup held on the 16/04/2021. The clean-up is held on the beautiful beach of Vlissingen. The volunteers will be split in small groups and the event will be corona-proof. The clean-up will start at 10:00h at the Panta Rhei. The aim is to clean as much as possible in a couple hours. On Friday afternoon on the 4th of October, the HZ Green Office is organising a beach cleanup in Vlissingen.
The meetup spot will be in front of the Panta Rhei at 14:15.
We will combine our efforts to get the beach a little cleaner followed by some drinks and snacks afterwards.
Drinks and snacks will be provided by us. However, please bring your own cup or a reusable bottle if you can.
We will also start combining the cleanups with monitoring the things we collect.
Delta management student Christoph Sonneck will guide us this Friday in monitoring plastic waste.
The goal is to measure what we find, how much, and where.
There are a lot of small plastic pellets on the beach at the moment, so bring a kitchen sieve/strainer if you have one.

Friday afternoon we'll take to the beach once again to clean up the shoreline of Vlissingen.
Cleanup materials will be provided.
We will meet at 15:00 in front of the Panta Rhei at Vlissingen close to the Nollestrand. On this occasion, we will continue the clean-up efforts while further collecting data about the plastic litter found.
Christoph will be there again needing your help and guiding you through the process. This time we would like to test the accessibility of a specific app so if you want to help and prepare in advance you could download the “litterati” app before Friday.
However, there will be an opportunity to download this on location. This approach is oriented on the same methodology as we tested last time but with a different input approach.

Strandhotel Westduin has been looking for a good
starting point for reducing and improving separate waste flows. Green waste (including vegetables, fruit, swill, coffee grounds) is a significant waste stream within the hotel. The issue is how they can make it circular. +
Six beach pavilions in Schouwen-Duiveland are looking into circular ways to reduce and recycle their waste. +

Make a wild bee hotel!🐝
Now, you may be thinking: "Why would I want to build a hotel for wild bees in my garden? They will come into my home and sting me!" However, this couldn't be farther from the truth.
What are wild bees?
Wild bees are solitary bees that live without a queen or group. They do not sting, do not enter houses and they mostly stay in the garden. As long as you don't hurt the bee, the bee won't hurt you.
Why is this important?
Solitary bees are important for the pollination of our plants and our food stock. In the last decades, the bee population has declined significantly, but people mostly only helped the honey bees. However, honey bees are not as good in pollination as solitary bees. A bee hotel will also help the bio-diversity in our environment!
How to make a bee hotel?
Join the bee hotel workshop next Wednesday (the 28th of April) to learn how! The location of the workshop is at the APV in Vlissingen (Joost de Moorstraat 21).
Why make a bee hotel yourself when you can just buy one from Action, for example?
Not all these bee or insect hotels are the right quality and can still have splinters inside them, which can harm the bees.
