Waste Separation at the HZ campus in Vlissingen and Middelburg
A four-way trash separation system has been created to seperate 4 different waste streams properly: Paper Cups, Paper, General Waste, and Organic Waste. The paper cups waste stream will no longer be recycled. As of March 1st, 2021, plastic will be recycled. Plastic waste counts for more than half of the HZ student body and staff's waste.
The four-way trash separation system
The four-way trash separation system initiative is interconnected to the SDG 11. Sustainable Cities and Communities, since HZ aims to create a sustainable and resilient environment. Sustainable waste management systems help keep the cities clean, and it creates a healthy environment for people to live in. As of late, project manager, Abigail Gongora has created flyers for the four-way trash separation system. These flyers will be placed in flyer holders and will be attached directly onto the bin. We hope that with this new implementation, students will become more engaged and become more motivated to recycle their waste properly. We hope that this initiative will also bridge the gap between students wanting to be able to recycle but know knowing where to place each item in.
