He then worked for the State of Florida in environmental management and permitting. </br>In 2021, he did his doctoral research at NIOZ in Yerseke. In this project, he focused on the bidirectional interactions between biotic and abiotic aspects of the (subtidal) seafloor and how this can influence the development of bedforms (ridges, mega ridges and sand waves) and the reverse. He also investigated the influence of sediment composition (i.e., shells) on the migration rate of sand ridges. </br>After the PhD, Chiu worked at Wageningen Marine Research (Yerseke) as a marine ecologist and project leader, where he was mainly involved in monitoring projects in the Southwest Delta. These projects included the efficacy of outer dike measures and their influences on benthic and bird communities and sediment composition. </br>He has been a coastal ecologist with the research group Building with Nature since September 2023. After completing his bachelor's degree at Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences and his master's degree at Delft University of Technology, he conducted doctoral research at Delft University of Technology and the Netherlands Defense Academy. </br></br>During his doctoral studies, he researched emergency measures that can be taken in the event of incipient dike breaches, using defense resources. In this research, he conducted physical experiments on three different scales. Her PhD research at IMARES (Yerseke) focused on the role of ecosystem engineers (Pacific oysters) on the eco-morphological development of intertidal areas. Through in-situ experiments and field observations, she has drawn up design rules for the effective use of oyster reefs as an erosion mitigating measure. </br>She then worked as a postdoctoral researcher at NIOZ (Yerseke). She then worked as a visiting scientist at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke in Bethesda, USA, and as a lecturer at the Department of Medical Pharmacology at VU University Amsterdam.</br>In recent years, she has focused on interventions and technological aids for the elderly, especially people with dementia.   • Hilde Kooiker - den Boer  + (Hilde Kooiker is a senior researcher at thHilde Kooiker is a senior researcher at the Excellence and Innovation in Education lectureship.</br></br></br>“What happens in a person's mind when he reads?”</br></br></br>Hilde completed her teacher training at the Zeeland University of Applied Sciences. There the interest she already had in language was further stimulated and that is why she went on to study Dutch language and literature at Utrecht University. She chose to specialize in communication science. Her graduation research was about the influence of text structure on the understanding and appreciation of textbook texts in pre-vocational secondary education. </br></br>She worked in primary education for ten years and was a Dutch teacher at the Primary Education Teacher training course at the Zeeland University of Applied Sciences from 2012 to 2024. In the autumn of 2024 she will start as a senior researcher at the Excellence and Innovation in Education lectureship. </br></br>Hilde is interested in language development and in particular in how text comprehension is achieved and how education can use this knowledge. Based on this interest and the expertise she has built up during her PhD research, she is project leader of the Workshop for Educational Research on Reading Skills, in which teachers from primary education, secondary education, secondary vocational education and Zeeland libraries work together to strengthen their reading education. She also participates in a complementary study into Collaborative investigative work in regional networks (NRO), in which she follows the learning network 'reading with understanding and involvement' in Amsterdam.</br></br>Hilde received her PhD on October 18, 2024 for research into the possibilities of integrating reading education into science and technology lessons in upper primary education.   • Hans de Bruin  + (How to make progress between people with dHow to make progress between people with different worldviews? Hans' motivation is an idealistic one. How do we make the world a little better together? </br></br>As lector of Expertise and Valorization Management, Hans deals almost daily with the question: How can we use each other's expertise in such a way that together we do the right things? I work on a wide range of topics, environmental management, energy transition, mobility, but also for issues related to dementia or cancer. </br>Students are introduced to the scientific approach of systems thinking. Three competencies are important here: conceptual thinking, critical reflection and connecting. With these competencies, they can become change facilitators. </br>They do this together, using content and exercises. They learn to question each other: What is your goal and what are your assumptions? In this way, they discover that people have different worldviews, assumptions and beliefs. What steps can you ultimately take that are arguably desirable and culturally feasible? Iarima started at HZ by participating in the Living Lab Biobased Brazil program, in which she assisted in the study of an Ion Exchange lab setup. This was a collaborative project between the HZ and Evides Industriewater. </br>Iarima joined the research group in 2020 and worked on the NEREUS project (New Energy and Resources for Urban Sanitation) where she studied resource recovery and the modeling and optimization of related processes. Her background also includes 18 years of diverse professional experience in multinational companies, spanning manufacturing, quality management, customer services, and human resources. </br>Zulema Belloso has been a leader in numerous local and international projects, with a strong focus on change management and high-impact organizational transformations. Currently, she expertly balances her role as Project Manager in the Water Technology Research Group with pursuing a degree in Environmental Sciences, further deepening her understanding of environmental issues. Her dissertation is based on Social Exchange Theory and Social Psychology where she applies ideas from the relationship and services management literature to higher education. The underlying research proposal was awarded the NWO PhD Scholarship for Teachers (Grant number 023.006.035). Ingrid has presented her research articles at several international conferences such as ICCMI, AERA, EARLI, BISTOPS, and ECP which have been published in international academic journals.</br>She has extensive experience in teaching such as in her role as coordinator of student career coaching, lecturer service management, designer of the Research Skills course, and thesis supervisor of students in the social and economic cluster.</br>With a penchant for doing research, Ingrid is always curious about new, innovative research projects in the fields of relationship building, social interaction, engagement, quality assurance and collaboration, and behavioral influence especially.</br>In doing so, she likes to make various crossovers in theory between education, research, and practice.between education, research, and practice.)

In 2011, Iris completed her bachelor's degree in Nursing and then worked as a nurse in various healthcare facilities (hospital, nursing home and home care). In 2014, after graduating in Nursing Science, she started teaching Nursing at HZ. </br>A year later, Iris joined the Healthy Region research group. This was with the idea of shaping the connection between education and research. </br>Since then, Iris has been working in the combination position of lecturer-researcher within the HZ. Her interests lie mainly in prevention and health promotion, but also in the use of technology in healthcare and interprofessional cooperation within and outside healthcare.   • Jaco de Smit  + (Jaco de Smit is a physical geographer and Jaco de Smit is a physical geographer and ecologist with a specialization in biophysical interaction and morphology of coastal ecosystems. </br></br>In 2016 he graduated as a physical geographer in the direction of hydrodynamics and sediment transport of river- and coastal systems at Utrecht University. He did his PhD-research at the NIOZ in Yerseke. His PhD-project was aimed at 1) quantifying of the effects of vegetation and benthos on sediment stability, and 2) the extrapolation thereof to be able to predict ecosystem stability. For this research he used a combination of innovative experiments using field flumes and the analysis and extrapolation of large hydrodynamic datasets such as waves, currents and tides. After his PhD Jaco stayed at the NIOZ as a Postdoc studying dislodgement risk of commercial mussel beds in the Wadden Sea. </br>In 2022 Jaco joined the Building with Nature group as researcher-lecturer, and since 2023 he is coordinator.
